Greg Keller's Team In Training Site
April 7, 2003
After dropping the ball on Christmas cards this year, I made a New Year’s resolution to do a better job of staying in touch. Around the same time, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) contacted me about helping with fund raising through one of their endurance events. After an introductory meeting, I signed up to compete in the Vancouver half-marathon at the beginning of May. So I am now training with a group several nights a week in order to have an excuse to write to you in April. On Saturday, we did our first 8-mile run and it wasn’t that bad. Our coaching has been excellent, and the aches and pains of the first few weeks are either less intense or more bearable. If you’ve ever thought about doing something like this, I’d encourage you to give it a try. The second part of my LLS challenge is to raise money for cancer research. There are many worthy causes, but this one hits home because a good friend is receiving treatments for non-Hodgkins lymphoma. While he’s been fighting the disease, I’ve learned about the new drugs and protocols that have helped him beat the odds. I’ve also discovered that LLS has played a large role in recent breakthroughs and contributes more than $40 million per year to the development of next generation treatments. If you join me in supporting this effort, you will receive more mail, email and other updates from me while I prepare for our race. And since I will be covering my own travel and training expenses, your donation will help LLS maintain its strong record of promoting research into promising new treatments for blood-related cancers. Thank you in advance for your support and I look forward to hearing from you |
